Acupuncture:

The style of acupuncture I specialize in is known as Toyohari, which is a form of Japanese Meridian Therapy.  The needling is very gentle and almost always completely painless; in fact, often I don't need to insert the needle at all, I can stimulate the point on the skin surface.

We Meridian Therapy practitioners can be that gentle and still be as or more effective as practitioners of other styles of acupuncture because of the accuracy with which we find points and the subtlety of our needling techniques; rather than just finding the point from a standard book, we're trained to find the "live" point that will be most effective for the person at the time.

We go through intense hands-on training in the Toyohari association in order to become that accurate.  Many of our teachers are blind, and in fact Toyohari's founder, Kodo Fukushima, lost his sight during World War II; they've trained their palpatory skills to a very refined level, and I feel privileged to have studied with them.

The types of acupuncture services I offer:

An Individual, In-Depth Session: This is usually an hour long session (allow 90 min for your first visit).  For a treatment where you want to have individual attention for an entire in-depth session, this is the type of service for you.  The average cost for time-of-service payments is $65, and $85 for delayed payments of any kind.

A Tune-Up: This type of faster (30 minutes total for the session) treatment is more affordable.  A *lot* can be done in 30 minutes, from treating back pain to relieving stress.  Because the session is short, the cost (at time-of-service) is only $35 (the delayed payment rate is $45).

Pediatric Acupuncture:  We have special Japanese acupuncture techniques just for kids!  We never need to insert needles in children, the techniques are more like a very gentle massage and are completely painless.  Because these treatments are fast, usually just 10 minutes or so, the cost (at time-of-service) is only $25.
Qigong & Meditation

Are you interested in a form of exercise that can effectively enhance your health, in almost any situation or with respect to any problem you're currently struggling with?

If so, practicing qigong may be for you.  Qigong is a simple way that you can empower yourself and help take charge of your health.  Practicing a few of these techniques on a regular basis can dramatically increase your energy and help you become deeply relaxed.  When you keep in mind that some experts estimate that 95% or more of modern illnesses are caused or severely exacerbated by stress, the benefits become obvious.  I believe that qigong can help enhance your health almost no matter what's going on, and once you learn it, you have it for life.  Call me at (206) 437-2968 to schedule a lesson.

About Manu Saxena, MAc., EAMP

Manu is the sole proprietor of Agape Acupuncture. He became interested in the field of acupuncture through his practice of Tai Chi Ch'uan (with Sifu Maurice Haltom), other martial arts like Aikido, and the study of ancient Chinese philosophy while at Cornell University. Manu also earned a Master's degree in philosophy from the University of Washington, where he was an instructor for several years.

Manu began studying acupuncture in Seattle at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1993. He is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Washington and nationally certified by the NCCAOM. He has also studied and received certification in Toyohari acupuncture by the international Toyohari Association.

Manu has studied Toyohari in Tokyo, Japan on several occasions and received certification as an instructor in Toyohari. He has served on the national board of the North American Toyohari Association, taught acupuncture in the Toyohari training program in Seattle, Colorado, and Florida, and served as a member of the Japanese acupuncture faculty at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

He is well versed in three different styles of acupuncture: traditional Chinese acupuncture, Manaka-style acupuncture (another Japanese style of acupuncture), and Toyohari Meridian-style acupuncture. In addition, Manu has experience with craniosacral therapy and various massage techniques, including Shiatsu and Chinese Tuina. He specializes in helping people enhance their health with Chinese medicine. Individuals with painful neuromusculoskeletal disorders, allergies, emotional challenges, and in particular children are frequent clients. Toyohari practitioners use a gentle method of treatment especially for children called Shonishin, which is entirely painless and yet very effective.

My Mission:

Inside everyone, it is said, there is a seed of Heaven, a divine essence that is meant to grow and flower and thereby express our unique gifts to the world.  However, in most of us this growth is blocked or thwarted before it can come to full bloom: false judgments from others or ones we make ourselves distort our understanding of who we really are.

In my practice, it's my goal to help people nourish their destiny, to help them to re-acquaint and re-align themselves with their inner spark.  Whether it's some simple back pain that's keeping you from doing what you love or something more emotional in nature, whatever's holding you back from expressing yourself completely or experiencing life fully, my mission is to help you overcome it.
